My 7 days in Salvador ranks as one of the most fun and personally rewarding times of my life! It is a city that never sleeps and opens its arms to all people - young and old (as long as they are willing to dance!).
We made so many friends (travellers and locals) and from one friend you meet the next. By our last night we were basically wandering around the Pelourhino saying hello to everyone like we owned the joint!

Major highlights included reggae nights, favela party, samba classes, getting our hair braided by the square, Barra beach, chilling on our hostel verandah, home-made Capahrinas, Alessandro, Adriano, Maurice, Brian, Alex, Mona Lisa, and our new Israeli, British, Irish and German friends!
I felt so at home in Salvador and I learned that people are really the same wherever you go. Everyone wants the same things - they want to be happy, find love and raise good families. I feel very blessed to have visited this awesome place and i hope many of my friends and family will do likewise!!!
So it was with deep sadness that we left Salvador to Rio. Everyone told us Salvador was the best for Carnival - but we decided to leave anyway to see what Rio offered!
The 30 hour bus trip was uncomfortable in parts - but overall quite good. I have never watched so many portugese dubbed movies in my life. The best part were the 3 friends we made on the bus - Leonardo, ??? and Magalena. They wanted to learn English and we were trying to speak Portugese and it was a terrible mess! But they were so lovely and generous! The 12 year old boy would ask us whether we wanted a can of Coke at every bus stop and then demand to share his food and drinks with us when he could! They would also make the bus driver play some movies in English so we could understand (although no one else on the bus could!).
We are now in Rio - and I will write about our adventures (or non-adventures) in the coming days.
xoxo
