End of the milk supply
Last Saturday morning I gave Bridget her last milk feed. The decision to stop came rather abruptly, as the result of medication which probably wouldn't be very good for Bridget. It didn't matter very much since she was beginning to show signs of not being very interested, but it was a strange moment on Sunday when I got her up and simply changed her nappy and took her down to breakfast. And it's a bit sad to think that there's the possibility that I may never do it again. Ho hum.
Bridget is now a milk-drinking-free zone. No matter how we try to cajole her she continues to tell us that if it's not Mummy milk then she ain't drinking it.
Restored equilibrium
Well, life is now back to normal, so more than time to get a blog entry written, I think.
Bridget's been improving rapidly over the last few days. She's stopped feeling itchy and hasn't needed any Ibuprofen or Calpol for a while (boxes which she got to recognise as things that were nice when she wasn't feeling well). She did get very, very bored of being at home with Mummy, so it was a great relief to be able to make contact with people at the weekend once her spots had dried, and taking her to Jack and Jill yesterday.
Today, we were a little apprehensive about a nursery day, but Bridget was sunny from the word go. There was no grumpiness on waking up, she ate a good breakfast and was happy to be put in her outdoor clothes. When we arrived at Stepping Stones she immediately got absorbed in soft cubes and rattles; Mummy was completely ignored from that point on. I left feeling relatively comfortable but still convinced that every phone call that came in during the day would be one asking me to go back and pick Bridget up.
However, the afternoon came with no incident and we returned to collect our daughter. We were greeted by big smiles, loud chatter and reports that she had had a very happy day. It left both of us with grins on our faces (hope Mike's hasn't worn off during teaching). Happy dinner, play and bath followed. Hurray; hurray; hurray.
