Second tooth

Bridget was clearly not keen on having a lopsided jaw, so has already produced her second bottom tooth. Again, it's obviously been there a few days, but I didn't take in its presence until yesterday. Hopefully, one day soon we'll be able to capture the existence of these enamel phenomena on camera, but don't hold your breaths.

No

While we were on holiday, we had some severe problems trying to get Bridget to keep her hat on her head. Given the amount of sun we were having, this mattered, although the shade over the top of her palanquin (otherwise known as the backpack carrier) helped most of the time. She would snatch her hat off her head almost as soon as it was placed there and would repeat this as soon as it was returned. Towards the end of the holiday, we started saying 'No' quite forcibly as soon as her hand went up to her hat, and quietly took her hand away. The first few times, it took nine or ten attempts before she would leave the hat alone. However, things rapidly improved, and she's now going through that phase where she will look at us as she puts her hand up, expecting to be told 'No'. It's amazing how quickly she has picked up on the meaning of this word. I have kept finding myself comparing her understanding to our cat's over the last few months, but it's clear that Bridget is now rapidly outstripping Columbine in getting to grips with the English language. Whoever heard of a cat obeying the word 'No'?

Singing

For the last few days we have noticed sounds coming from Bridget's mouth which can best be described as singing. Unlike her normal babble, these ones almost always consist of the sound 'Ah' and have a recognisable tuneful pitch. She will smile when I sing or hum back to her, and often repeat what she was doing. So, we shall have to see whether singer or piano (remember the pianist's hands?) will win out in the long run.
